01 Sep Remote Management and Monitoring (RMM)
It’s time to take advantage of Remote Management and Monitoring (RMM).
It saves you A LOT of money on IT support and provides you peace of mind knowing your technology is being managed. I am aware this is a strong statement but it’s true. Our company has a real challenge in educating our customers and potential customers about it. We would love your help!
When you see someone who has lost a lot of weight you might ask them: “What’s your secret?” and they will tell you. But how often will someone take that “secret” and use it themselves for similar results? If it’s too good to be true, it probably is! So no, I won’t cut sugar and do a ketogenic diet or whatever the “secret” was. I’ll stick with what I’m doing.
Our problem in educating is similar to this but harder, because I know that most people don’t know what RMM is. Its technology, which unlike a motor vehicle for example, is changing so fast computer users bury their heads in the sand and hope for the best. When the tyres on your car are visibly balding we KNOW to change them for fear of injury or death. We have mechanics regularly maintain our motor vehicles and certify that they are in good working order. We take the time out of our schedule to ensure this is done. But motor vehicles don’t need this done every day, right?!
So what about technology, what about viruses, malware and ransomware? We know these are bad and potentially disastrous for our business or home technology, and they’re changing every day. So do we take the time out of our schedule to do maintenance? Do you have an IT person check on you each day? No, you don’t. That’s impractical, right? The IT person would have to travel to see you and charges by the hour. You have antivirus installed and you’ve seen the computer’s request to do updates so it’s all ok, right? Wrong. Do you really KNOW you have the basics covered? (System updates and antivirus for starters). No, you don’t.
You should have RMM and KNOW you have these aspects covered. Don’t wait for ransomware attacks, data loss or systems offline. You can have someone check on you each day and have peace of mind knowing that you are covered. You will know how easy it is once you do it.
There are lots of different names for RMM depending on your IT company’s chosen product and terminology.
What is RMM?
RMM is software that is installed on your computer. It’s very small and doesn’t take up a lot of space but enables your IT company to do three key things:
1. Remotely connect to your computer when support is required
2. Manage your computer to keep it up to date
3. Monitor your computer to provide insights into potential problems before they happen.
